Thus, what exactly is mean, mode & median?

A mean is the total of all the numbers divided by the number of numbers, which is our average.

mean = add all then divide by quantity of numbers

mode = number that is repeated the most often
Example:
Find the mean of 13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13
Answer:
(13 + 18 + 13 + 14 + 13 + 16 + 14 + 21 + 13) ÷ 9 = 15
Note: The number might not be in the original list of numbers
Example:
Find the median of 13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13
Answer:
Write the list in the order:
13, 13, 13, 13, 14, 14, 16, 18, 21
(9+1)÷2 = 5 (the fifth number)
So the median is the 5th number from the latter list: 14
Example:
Find the mode of 13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13
Answer:
Write the list in the order:
13, 13, 13, 13, 14, 14, 16, 18, 21
13 is repeated the most often, so 13 is the mode.
So, if the number given was 13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13:
mean = 15
median = 14
mode = 13

Mean

Median
Middle value of a list. If you have numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, the median is 5. Medians are often used when data are skewed, meaning that the distribution is uneven. In that case, a few very high numbers could, for instance, change the mean, but they would not change the median.
Mode
For lists, the mode is the most common (frequent) value.

(13 + 18 + 13 + 14 + 13 + 16 + 14 + 21 + 13) ÷ 9 = 15 so the mean of the numbers are 15.
Median: For median, it is also the average. But we need to arrange them in order and then find the middle number among those numbers.
Example: Median of the 13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13
There are 9 numbers therefore the 5th number is the middle number. 13, 13, 13, 13, 14, 14, 16, 18, 21. Therefore the mean of the number is 14.
Mode: It is also an average. However, we it is to find the most numbers of the numbers you need to find.
Example: Mode of the 13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13
13 is repeated the most thus 13 is the Mode.

Mean is the average of a group of numbers. Median is the number which is in value, in the middle, you can find this by arranging the numbers in a ascending order and the number in the middle is the median. Mode is the most common number that appears the most among all the numbers.

The Median
The Median is the 'middle value' in your list. When the totals of the list are odd, the median is the middle entry in the list after sorting the list into increasing order. When the totals of the list are even, the median is equal to the sum of the two middle (after sorting the list into increasing order) numbers divided by two. Thus, remember to line up your values, the middle number is the median! Be sure to remember the odd and even rule.
Examples:
Find the Median of: 9, 3, 44, 17, 15 (Odd amount of numbers)
Line up your numbers: 3, 9, 15, 17, 44 (smallest to largest)
The Median is: 15 (The number in the middle)
Find the Median of: 8, 3, 44, 17, 12, 6 (Even amount of numbers)
Line up your numbers: 3, 6, 8, 12, 17, 44
Add the 2 middles numbers and divide by 2: 8 12 = 20 ÷ 2 = 10
The Median is 10.
The Mode
The mode in a list of numbers refers to the list of numbers that occur most frequently. A trick to remember this one is to remember that mode starts with the same first two letters that most does. Most frequently - Mode. You'll never forget that one!
Examples:
Find the mode of:
9, 3, 3, 44, 17 , 17, 44, 15, 15, 15, 27, 40, 8,
Put the numbers is order for ease:
3, 3, 8, 9, 15, 15, 15, 17, 17, 27, 40, 44, 44,
The Mode is 15 (15 occurs the most at 3 times)
*It is important to note that there can be more than one mode and if no number occurs more than once in the set, then there is no mode for that set of numbers.

ReplyDeleteMean is the average that we usually use, adding everything together and dividing it according to the quantity of each thing. Example: Class mean in report card. 1,2,3,4,5--1+2+3+4+5=3
Median is the number in the middle of a whole least of numbers. In order to calculate the median, you have the arrange the least in numerical order.
Example: 1,2(is the median),3.
Mode is the number in the list that is found the most often, to find it, just count and look for the numbers that appears the most.
1,2,3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,6= mode will be number 6

median in statistics is the number in the middle of an order of sequence from lowest to highest : 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 – the median here is 7. if the amount of numbers in the sequence is even, then the median is the number between the 2 numbers in nearest to the centre – 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 median here is 6
mode in statistics is the value that occurs most often : if 3 out of 5 children's math scores are 90, the mode is 90.

The number “3” appears the most frequently.
The Mode is 3.
Median: The middle value in the list of numbers. If the list of numbers are odd, take the number in the middle. If the list of numbers are even, take the 2 numbers in the middle and divide it by 2.
Eg. Odd amount of numbers: 3, 7, 12, 45, 65, 32, 23 (smallest to largest)
Line your numbers: 3, 7, 12, 23, 32, 45, 65
The Median is: 23.
Even amount of numbers: 3, 7, 12, 45, 65, 32
Line your numbers: 3, 7, 12, 32, 45, 65
The Median is 2: 12+32 = 44/ 2= 22
The Median is 22.
