A Thinking Question....

When 1 is divided by 1, the answer as we know the answer will be 1. Similarly when 2 is divided by 2, 3 is divided by 3 and 4 is divided by 4, we know that the answer will still be equal to 1.
However, is it true that when x is divided by x, the answer will always be 1? If not, when is x divided by x not equal to 1?

    Let's put this in Mathematical terms.



    Let x = 0

    x / x = ?
    0 / 0 = ?
    0 / 0 = ∞

    By the way, why is it infinity again?

  5. If x = 0, the ans would be ∞.

    If x ≠ 0, then the ans would always be 1, since x = x.

  8. No, x/x will not always be equal to one. It is not equal to 1 when x is 0. This is because 0/ 0 = ∞.

  14. But in algebra, the unknown is not usually 0. But in this case x=0, because it is the only value in which this principle applies to.
